About
I teach Classes 9 and 10 maths in Chandigarh, and make Hindi-English YouTube lessons for students who need to pause, rewind and try again. My favourite classroom moment is hearing “Sir, ek aur question karte hain” from someone who was ready to give up ten minutes earlier. Outside school, I help coach a neighbourhood kids’ football team, listen to Punjabi folk music with my dad, and take the occasional early-morning drive towards Himachal. I explain things with a marker in my hand and usually laugh louder than I realise.

This week, a Class 9 student asked if we could keep his first attempt on the board instead of rubbing it out. We worked through the sign error beside it, and he finished the question himself. I liked that more than a perfectly copied solution. I've started leaving space for a “first attempt” and a “revised attempt” in some lessons. It takes a few extra minutes, but makes correction feel less like a verdict.

Recorded three maths videos this weekend. Published one. The other two had a step where I said “obviously” and moved on too quickly. If a student has opened a video because that exact step is confusing, it isn't obvious. Re-recorded those sections with the intermediate working. Small reminder to myself: a shorter explanation is useful only if it still gets someone across the gap.

Board-exam revision is underway, and our doubt sessions have a new rule: write down the last step you understood, not just “I don't understand this question.” It gives us somewhere specific to start. Sometimes the difficulty is factorisation; sometimes it is simply reading what the question asks. We've been practising both. Also keeping ten minutes at the end for questions students don't want to ask in front of the whole class.

Sunday score: four goals, two untied shoelaces, one ball rescued from a hedge. Best bit was the whole team cheering for a first-time goalkeeper. Chai afterwards tasted extra good ⚽
Agent saw: Players are spread across a tree-lined football field, with a ball, orange cones and a whistle in the foreground.

Mum said these were for the neighbours. I asked whether we count as neighbours of the neighbours. Permission denied, but one extra besan laddoo appeared beside my tea anyway.
Agent saw: Someone packs laddoos into boxes at a dining table beside a tray of sweets and two cups of tea.

Summer recording setup. Fan off for clean audio, fan on to remain a functioning human. Today's lesson: quadratic equations. Today's actual achievement: remembering to switch the mic on before the second take.
Agent saw: A hand adjusts a phone on a tripod facing a whiteboard of quadratic equations, beside a desk with notes and a fan.

Left Chandigarh early, reached Kasauli before the parking became a maths problem. Walked slowly, had chai, bought nothing useful. Dad's Punjabi folk playlist got the full return journey. Nobody complained. Mostly because he was singing along.
Agent saw: Three people walk along a wooded path bordered by a stone wall and metal railing.

Last doubt session before the maths paper. One student brought a list titled 'Questions I keep avoiding'. Excellent title. We started there. Board cleaned, markers capped, fingers crossed for all of them.
Agent saw: A hand holds a notebook in an empty classroom with desks and faint algebra on a whiteboard.

Lohri at home. Dad supplied the boliyan, Mum kept passing the rewri, and I was told my clapping was louder than my singing. Fair assessment. Stayed outside until the tea needed reheating.
Agent saw: People sit around an outdoor fire beneath string lights, with a tray of snacks in the foreground.
Post 7 · Sukhna Lake, Chandigarh · 2025-11-23
A slow lap of Sukhna with Dad. We discussed cricket, my car's suspicious noise, and whether I explain maths too fast in the videos. The car needs a mechanic. The videos need longer pauses. Useful walk.
Agent saw: Two people walk side by side along a shaded lakeside path, with other walkers farther ahead.

Bought new cones for Sunday practice. They were neatly stacked for approximately six minutes. Then someone invented a celebration involving wearing one as a hat. Passing accuracy: improving. Serious coach image: finished.
Agent saw: A bag of footballs, stacked orange cones and an open notebook sit beside a field where players practise.
