Data Analyst at Marudham Bank | SQL, Power BI & retail credit analytics
About
I’m a Chennai-based data analyst working on retail credit and branch performance at Marudham Bank. My work involves SQL, Power BI, and quite a few conversations about what a number actually means before it goes into a report. I like a tidy reconciliation, clear documentation, and leaving enough time for someone else to check my work. Outside the bank, I’ve learnt Bharatanatyam since childhood, run at Besant Nagar, and save a little leave for the December concert season.
Data Analyst · Marudham Bank
2022-07 – Present
Build and maintain SQL datasets and Power BI dashboards for retail credit and branch performance reviews. Work with credit and operations teams to reconcile monthly figures, investigate exceptions, and document reporting definitions. Introduced a pre-release checklist for recurring reports so validation does not depend on whoever happens to remember it.
Reporting Analyst · Copperleaf Financial Services
2020-02 – 2022-06
Prepared portfolio and collections reports using SQL and Excel. Replaced several manual spreadsheet steps with reusable queries and worked with operations colleagues to resolve mismatches between source files and monthly summaries.
Junior Data Analyst · Ledgergrove Analytics
2017-07 – 2020-01
Supported reporting projects for financial-services clients, including data cleaning, reconciliation, and dashboard testing. Maintained issue logs and learnt to ask for a metric definition before building the chart.

A small reporting improvement this month: we put the metric definitions next to the dashboard instead of leaving them in a separate document that everyone had to hunt for. Nothing dramatic, but our review conversations are already better. We spend less time asking which accounts are included and more time discussing the actual movement. I’m learning that making analysis useful often means making the surrounding information easier to find.

Eight years into working with data, I still keep a reconciliation sheet before I publish a dashboard. Row counts, totals, date boundaries, a few known cases. It isn’t the most interesting part of the work, but it catches the things a good-looking chart can hide. This week, a date filter was the culprit. Very ordinary mistake, very useful reminder: check the boring things first.

My dance teacher has always made us practise a difficult passage slowly before bringing it up to speed. I thought about that during a report handover this week. Walking through one example carefully did more than a long list of instructions. We traced the source, checked the transformation, and explained the exception. A little slower on the first day, much less confusion afterwards. Some lessons travel surprisingly well between the rehearsal room and the office.

Amma's golu boxes are out for inspection. Apparently my job is still untangling the lights, not deciding where the dolls go. Some roles do not change.
Agent saw: Hands unwrap a painted figurine beside open cardboard boxes of figurines, newspaper and a coil of lights.

Five easy kilometres and then a very serious discussion with Appa about where to get breakfast. He did the walking version. We both feel we earned the pongal.
Agent saw: Two people walk along a beachside promenade lined with trees in early light.

Back to the same adavu until the landing stops sounding like an argument. Twenty years of learning and my teacher can still correct three things before I finish eight counts.
Agent saw: A cropped view shows a dancer practicing indoors with ankle bells, with a water bottle and chair nearby.

Saturday horror film with my cousin. I selected it with great confidence and then made her accompany me to the kitchen for water. No further questions.
Agent saw: A television shows a dim corridor while popcorn, two metal cups and a remote sit on a living-room table.

Birthday breakfast at home. Amma made kesari, Appa bought too many flowers, and my brother put 29 candles on a cake that was not designed for that load. Very happy. Slightly concerned about the icing.
Agent saw: A home dining table holds a cake crowded with candles, breakfast dishes, flowers and cups.

Two kutcheris, one notebook full of ragam guesses, and a proper canteen lunch with Amma. Took leave for this afternoon and did not check my inbox. December has its own timetable.
Agent saw: Concert programmes rest beside an open handwritten notebook and a pen, with people standing in the courtyard beyond.

Rain cancelled the beach plan, so filter coffee and old concert recordings it is. Appa keeps saying 'listen to this bit' and restarting the same thirty seconds. I understand where my repeat-button habits came from.
Agent saw: Two cups of coffee, a speaker, an open notebook and glasses sit beside a rain-covered window overlooking plants.

Sunday practice, then lunch at Paati's. Packed my salangai but forgot the empty dabba she specifically asked me to bring. Came home with three of hers instead.
Agent saw: A canvas bag containing ankle bells and folded fabric sits on a wooden bench beside stacked metal food containers.
